Zero Waste Challenge - Groceries : onto non food items, A.K.A. ode to the last roll...

I have been pretty focused on just the food portion of my challenge and have only started to scrape the surface of the full challenge with other items- like getting slices of bulk soap and getting bulk natural shampoo. But now I need to get serious about some of the major consumables in my kitchen- namely, my paper towel usage.

Now yes, I know paper towel is recyclable- but only if it has no food on it. If it has food on it, then it is compostable- but only if the stuff on it is food and not chemical or processed. And regardless it does take a lot of a tree(s) to make 'a' roll. SO part of the zero waste challenge is saying good bye to this old friend.

Ode to the last roll
Dear, dear roll of paper towel,
You have been there for me.
You are my go to kitchen friend.
You, oh friend of all mothers of toddlers.
You, instant spillage gatherer- you are so clean, quick and then gone! No mess- triple ply brawny,
You're the best.
And yet alas, you are an excess,
An excess because with fabric reusable napkins and sponges, I don't need you-
And with a little hand and elbow work, you are surpassed.
But oh, the years we've had.
We shall bump into each other at other houses I'm sure, but I will try not to use you even then.
For alas, I am trying to use a little bit less.
Here is my new 'paper towel' station.

I actually found brand new bunch of cloth napkins at goodwill for 3 bucks. I washed them and used the rope ties to keep them tidy because when things are cute looking, I will actually have them out on my table and therefore use them and not be tempted to run out and borrow PT from a neighbor. I also have a bin now at the bottom of the pantry for dirty napkins so than if I have guests over, they can use the fabric napkins too and then toss in the nice bin and I will launder them later.
More work on me? Yes- a bit.
Better on Environment? Yep! A whole lot ( I think over time anyways).
